The acquisition of a diamond can be an important expression of love or celebration as well as an important investment. It is essential for the diamond proprietor to have certification of the characteristics of the diamond in order to obtain confidence in the integrity of the purchase.

An ADL certificate is a statement issued by an independent laboratory documenting the characteristics of the diamond as determined by our experienced diamond graders at the time of the evaluation.

Because your diamond
deserves the best

When shopping for something as precious and rare as a diamond, it is important that the diamond is accompanied by a diamond report from an independent laboratory. A thorough grading report will include all the necessary information such as the cut, the colour, the clarity and the carat, so that you know and understand the quality of what you are purchasing.

This is why it’s important to insist on a diamond report issued by the Antwerp Diamond laboratory (ADL).

Ask your jeweller for an ADL certificate. Accept no substitutes and buy your diamond with confidence.

Diamonds and Antwerp, a match made in heaven.

Antwerp has been the focus of the diamond trade since the 15th century. The industry has been transformed since Lodewyk van Berken invented a new form of diamond polishing tool, the ‘scaif’, enabling the faceting of the rough diamond hence creating the stereotypical sparkling diamonds that we all know and love. This attracted orders from the European nobility and attracted other craftsmen to Antwerp. In 1890 a diamond industry is established in Antwerp by families of diamond traders and manufacturers who came from Amsterdam/Netherlands.

When the first diamonds were discovered in South Africa in 1866, along with the discovery of the Kimberly deposits a few years later, large quantities of diamonds came to Europe as a result. This massive influx of rough diamonds following the discoveries in South Africa was instrumental in contributing to the status of Antwerp as the world’s leading diamond centre.
